Résumé

Secondary-refrigerants are widely used nowadays. In new, ideally designed plants, the refrigerant charge can be lowered by 85% when compared with direct-evaporation systems. Today's refrigerants are good, environmentally-safe transitional fluids, if one judges by their TEWIs. As for energy use, secondary-refrigerant plants deliver more cooling at equal, or even better, COPs, as long as all possibilities for optimization are taken advantage of in the areas of refrigeration production (evaporation), distribution (electronic temperature control in the cold rooms, pump control that can be adjusted to requirements) and condensing (lowering of condensing pressure according to need, and fan and pump control).
