Expériences préliminaires concernant une approche innovante pour la régulation solaire des façades vitrées.

Preliminary experiments on an innovative approach for solar control of glazed facades.

Résumé

In the last years a lot of research has been devoted to the development of devices to control solar energy flux through transparent facades and, sometimes, to change also their thermal transmittance during the coldest hours of a day. That target is usually accomplished by inserting switchable layers with changeable optical properties inside glass stratifications. When they switch from a clear to a translucent state, the glass changes from a highly transmitting layer to a light-diffusing surface. In this paper a feasibility study about another innovative approach to solve such problem is presented. This device has shown a number of positive features: it is transparent both in the high solar transmittance and in the low solar transmittance states; it switches from one condition to another within few minutes; the process is completely reversible and does not worsen its performances with time. The first part of the paper is devoted to provide a general description of this device and the second part presents the preliminary experiments executed to verify durability and to measure the increment of solar reduction coefficient that such device is able to provide when switches between the two states. Concluding remarks about future research are discussed as well.
