Résumé

In Europe, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) provides for compulsory energy performance certification for all existing dwellings. Energy labels are determined from theoretical gas and electricity consumption of a dwelling based on its physical characteristics. A large-scale study in The Netherlands comparing theoretical energy use with data on actual energy use was conducted revealing substantial discrepancies, large enough that when using actual rather than theoretical consumptions to predict future energy savings, most of the targets set for future energy and CO2 reductions will not be met. This study investigates how different parameters influence theoretical and actual consumptions gas and electricity. Analysis is conducted through descriptive statistics and regression analysis. A sensitivity analysis of assumptions used in the calculation is conducted as well, addressing also the potential influence of behavioural parameters.
