Résumé

The high density of large urban centers is a result of the lack of urban planning, leading to a large energy consumption with artificial conditioning in order to address the absence of environmental quality and thermal comfort of users. In Brazil, the “National Program for Energy Efficiency of Buildings” – PROCEL Edifica – established the “Quality Technical Requirements for the Energy Efficiency Level of Commercial, Services and Public Buildings” (RTQ-C), which evaluates and classifies the level of energy efficiency of those buildings. Its methodology, based on computer simulations, considers the modeling of the surroundings of the building optional. Nevertheless, research indicates that urban geometry influences the performance of buildings. The aim of this paper is to analyze the influence of the surroundings on the use of daylight in an office building and thereafter on its energy efficiency label and thermal comfort by means of a computer simulation based on the RTQ-C. A theoretical model was conceived and simulated using Energy Plus and Daysim with different surroundings and three distinct electric lighting systems: the first one remains activate during working hours (the most usual),the second is activated by the user when needed and the third accounts for dimmers controlled by photosensors. The reduction of total annual energy use caused only by the shading from surroundings lies between 10% and 17% compared with the isolated models, which was enough to raise the level of energy efficiency. In relation to the lighting system, its contribution was from 25% to 32% reduction on the total electricity consumption depending on the surroundings as compared to the models with lights activated during working hours.
