Résumé

Notes that more than 55% of buildings in Finland have moisture problems, with over 100,000 having mould growth. This means that over 400,000 people have been exposed to moulds in damp houses. Points out that exposure to moulds is a significant health risk. Irritation of the eyes, the respiratory tract and skin may occur following exposure to microbes and numbers of exposed persons develop a hypersensitivity reaction to fungal allergens. Asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and organic dust toxic syndrome may also develop after exposure. Describes clinical manifestations associated with mould exposure in moisture-problem buildings.
