Résumé

R410A is widely used in residential and light commercial air-conditioning, heat pump and chiller systems. Increasing concerns about climate change have resulted in the proposal of various environmental regulations to phase out R410A and other hydrofluorocarbons. This paper presents low GWP R410A replacement refrigerants with GWP lower than 150 for residential heat pump applications. HFO blends, such as R455A, can have comparable capacity and efficiency of R410A while displaying reduced flammability compared to hydrocarbons. Thermodynamic properties for these blends show a need to increase compressor displacement to match R410A capacity and optimization of heat exchangers to decrease losses from glide, especially on the evaporator. To this end various evaporator geometries were modelled to determine the optimal design that could match or surpass the R410A baseline. Counter flow arrangement (+3.1%), lower outlet superheat from 3C to 1C (+2.3%), increased row from 2 to 3 (+1.9%) and increased number of circuits from 5 to 8 (+1.5%) c
