Hydrocarbure en tant que frigorigène de remplacement permettant la conservation d'énergie dans un système de conditionnement d'air.

Hydrocarbon refrigerant as an alternative refrigerant for energy conservation in an air conditioning system.

Résumé

Series of investigations were carried to find out the consequences of retrofitting the R22 AC system with hydrocarbon R290 refrigerant. The investigation includes the theoretical prediction on the effect of mixing R22 and R290, the alteration of R22 oil viscosity when R290 is used, and the observation of performance and total electric energy consumption of the retrofitted system and the building's. The result shows that R22 cannot be mixed with R290 and that the performance of the AC system is lower if R22/R290 mixtures were used as refrigerants. For that reason the R22 system has to be totally evacuated before it is filled with R290. The oil viscosity alteration is not significant. Hence, R290 can be filled into R22 system without oil replacement. The performance of retrofitted chillers is better. This is indicated by lower electric power consumption, and better cooling performance. The power saving in the retrofitted AC system gives significant reduction on total electric power consumption of a building.
