Evaluation expérimentale d'HC-290 en tant que fluide de remplacement pour le HCFC-22 dans un conditionneur d'air de fenêtre.

Experimental assessment of HC-290 as a drop-in alternative to HCFC-22 in a window air conditioner.

Résumé

With HFCs having been included to be controlled under the Kyoto Protocol, natural refrigerants with zero ozone depletion potential and negligible global warming potential, e.g. carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and ammonia, are looked upon as promising alternatives. The paper presents the experimental performance study of a window air conditioner with HC-290 as a drop-in substitute to HCFC-22. The air conditioner is a 5.13 kW (1.5 TR) unit designed for HCFC-22. The air conditioner has been tested as per the Indian Standard 1391 (1992) Part I, for unitary air conditioners. These test conditions are closer to the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI) Standard 210/240 (1989) for unitary air conditioning and air source heat pump for cooling mode. The performance of the air conditioner with HC-290 is compared with the baseline performance with HCFC-22.The performance parameters considered are cooling capacity, COP, energy consumption, discharge pressure and pressure drop. Experimental results showed that HC-290 had 6.6% lower cooling capacity for the lower outdoor conditions and 9.7% lower for the higher outdoor conditions with respect to HCFC-22. The COP for HC-290 was 7.9% higher for the lower outdoor conditions and 2.8% higher for the higher outdoor conditions. The energy consumption of the unit with HC-290 was lower in the range 12.4 to 13.5% than HCFC-22. The discharge pressures for HC-290 were lower in the range 13.7 to 18.2% than HCFC-22. For HC-290, the pressure drop was lower than HCFC-22 in both heat exchangers.
