Implications de la production de frigorigènes sur les changements climatiques.

The climate change implications of producing refrigerants.

Résumé

For refrigeration systems it has been shown that energy consumption during operation has the largest potential for environmental impact. In the work described, climate change impacts are evaluated for a number of common refrigerant fluids, from both the energy used in their production and the process-related emissions of greenhouse gases. These are compared with the potential impact on global warming from use and disposal of the refrigerants, including direct release into the environment. It is shown that the implications for climate change of the production of ammonia or hydrocarbon (or even HFC) refrigerating fluids is truly insignificant in comparison with other stages of the life cycle of a refrigerator.
