The author notes the often tedious and time-consuming nature of determining the efficiency of a HVAC system and states that today, infrared thermometers offer a faster, more effective way of diagnosing duct leaks, blocked steam traps, wet insulation, malfunctioning coils and other heat-related problems common to HVAC systems. The author describes how IR thermometers work and explains their use during installation and maintenance.
