The natural refrigerant and its application.

Résumé

The conventional refrigerant R22 has been replaced by hydrofluorocarbons, and the operation of recovery and destruction systems for fluorocarbons started in 2002 in Japan. However, for future global warming prevention, it is said that conversion to natural working fluids will be required. In the paper, an overview of the research on heat pumps using natural working fluids in Japan is summarized. Carbon dioxide systems for mobile air conditioners and water heaters are actively investigated. The heat-pump water heaters operated at night were put on the market, and expansion of their use is expected. Hydrocarbon heat pumps for air conditioning are not on the market for safety reasons. Only a small number of refrigerators operated with isobutane are sold in Japan. Although ammonia refrigerators are the mature and reliable technology, the law requires expensive safety facilities, and therefore they are only used for refrigerated warehouse or for industrial uses.
