This report contains an overview of the European market. Reasons for success, barriers to growth and strategies to overcome these barriers are identified, both for solar thermal in general and for the main market segments. A detailed action plan to tackle the main barriers to growth is proposed. These actions require the continued efforts of the industry, but also strong and long-term political support at European, national and regional level. This publication is composed of 5 main parts: market overview; growth targets, potential and scenarios; action plan for solar thermal in Europe (key issues for the European Solar Thermal Policies: regulations, EU market integration, research and development; actions for each market segment: residential, tertiary and industrial sectors; district heating); applications and technology (domestic hot water; solar energy for district heating; air conditioning and other applications); key developments in selected countries outside the EU (Israel, Turkey, India, China, Japan, Australia, USA).
