Résumé

This article is about the role air-conditioning systems can play in making our society more sustainable. In recent years, this equipment has mainly been used for its heating function. The process used in heat pumps proves to be extremely effective in comparison to heating by means of the combustion of fossil fuels. It will come as a surprise to many that a modest modification can also make this equipment useful for generating electricity from waste heat. The organic Rankine cycle has been developed on the concept that a generator driven by a gas/diesel engine can potentially operate with a maximum efficiency of 35 to 40%.
