Résumé

Insulated boxes used for the transport of heat-sensitive health products are made with various insulation materials, selected for their performance and price. Insulation under vacuum is a new technology launched in this application. The study is a comparative analysis between VIP and rigid polyurethane panels. The analysis is based on test results carried out on PU and VIP boxes. In theory, the thermal conductivity of VIP is 5 times lower than that of PU, but the real ratio does not exceed 3 because of various thermal bridges. VIP must be protected by a material which increases the thickness and the cost of the box and reduces its performance. VIPs have made significant advances during the last several years with the introduction of better core fillers and improved barrier films. This promising technology must be improved in order to increase VIP’s performance and reduce its cost.
