Maintien des standards de sécurité pour le transport maritime du GNL.

Maintaining standards in LNG marine safety.

Résumé

In the paper, the generic factors which have contributed to the first-class marine safety record of the LNG industry are reviewed. LNG marine safety has been maintained not only by a mandatory regulatory framework. It has crucially rested on the accumulated experience and expertise of the participants in the industry, and on the culture of the LNG industry which has always regarded LNG transportation as a unique cargo, and treated LNG marine operations as part of an integrated activity chain connecting seller, shipper and buyer. The importance of wide-spread adoption of industry best practice in design, operational procedures and, in particular, safety management systems is highlighted.
