This Handbook covers the basic principles and contains essential data for HVAC&R design. Highlights in this edition are on climatic design information, insulation for mechanical systems, residential cooling and heating load calculations and nonresidential cooling and heating load calculations. The Handbook is divided into the following main parts: theory (thermodynamics and refrigeration cycles, fluid flow, heat transfer, two-phase flow, mass transfer, psychrometrics, sound and vibration); general engineering information (thermal comfort, indoor environmental health, environmental control for animals and plants, physiological factors in drying and storing farm crops, air contaminants, odours, measurement and instruments, fundamentals of control, airflow around buildings); basic materials (energy resources, combustion and fuels, refrigerants, thermophysical properties of refrigerants, physical properties of secondary coolants, sorbents and desiccants, thermal and moisture control in insulated assemblies, thermal and water vapour transmission data, insulation for mechanical systems); load and energy calculations (ventilation and infiltration, climatic design information, residential and nonresidential cooling and heating load calculations, fenestration, energy estimating and modelling methods); duct and pipe design (space air diffusion, indoor environmental modelling, duct design, pipe sizing); general (abbreviations and symbols, units and conversions, physical properties of materials, codes and standards). The 2005 Handbook CD contains both the I-P and SI editions.
