Résumé

Electronic rooms as well as computer rooms are essential to operate a factory. In the event of a power outage, these rooms must be kept below a defined temperature limit so that the operation of the room equipment ensures the safety of the industrial site. The French electricity company EDF studied the possibility to control the temperature of such rooms by using phase changing materials. Different Phase Changing Material (PCM) devices are proposed and modelled in a Modelica environment. The performances of devices are evaluated using sensitivity to design parameters against the main quantity of interest such as room temperature rise. The lack of ventilation due to power outage makes some parameters more influential than others: a low PCM melting temperature, a thin air space in PCM/air heat exchangers and the use of water as a secondary fluid instead of air are required.
