Résumé

An experimental method has been developed that allows the amount of oil contained in piping, condensers, evaporators, receivers, and accumulators to be measured. Some advantages of this technique are high accuracy and not requiring the components of the system to be removed. The basic concept of the method is to dissolve all of the oil in a known amount of solvent, take a small sample of the solution, and from that sample determine the concentration of oil in the solution. The solvent used can be the refrigerant for miscible combinations. While oil concentration can be determined in a number of ways, distillation and weighing yields sufficiently high accuracy in a reasonable length of time at minimal cost.
