Résumé

The USDA-ARS National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) maintains over 20 garlic (Allium sativum) accessions. The accessions are grown in the field each year. The cryopreservation methods involve the use of 15% v/v DMSO, 15% v/v ethylene glycol, 30% v/w glycerol, 0.4 M sucrose or 50% v/w sucrose, 50% v/w glycerol. Ten of twelve garlic accessions were successfully cryopreserved using either of these solutions. Five genotypes exhibited best regrowth after exposure to the second solution, and 3 genotypes performed equally well with either solution.
