Modélisation d'une technique de refroidissement rapide pour les cryorefroidisseurs à tube à pulsation.

Modelling a fast cooldown technique for pulse-tube cryocoolers.

Résumé

Fast cooldown of cryocoolers is important for some applications, especially for military applications. Previously, the authors proposed that the cooldown time of pulse tube cryocoolers can be decreased by reducing the size of the reservoir volume during initial cooldown and switching back to the normal volume when the temperature is nearing the desired cold temperature. In this paper they discuss the modeling of the fast cooldown technique to a temperature of 50 K and show that for relatively large pulse tube cryocoolers the cooldown time can be decreased by a factor of two or three compared to the normal pulse tube cryocooler with a fixed reservoir volume or with a Stirling cryocooler. The paper shows that the reduced reservoir volume decreases the impedance of the network consisting of the inertance tube and reservoir volume. The reduced impedance allows for a greater acoustic power flow through the regenerator and pulse tube, which leads to a greater refrigeration power.
