Résumé

This paper addresses the key issues facing the HVAC designer today. Building services must not only be energy efficient, but also sustainable; they must respect the environment and use renewable energy as much as possible. After an overview of the current codes and bye-laws, some modern system solutions are briefly examined, with their advantages and disadvantages. Finally an outline is given of the two most popuat sustainability protocols, BREEAM (UK) and LEED (USA).
