Résumé

Energy efficiency and sustainability are more and more expressed in related to reduction of CO2 emission. By use of condensing heat of refrigeration plants it is possible to reduce the use of fossil fuel for heating purposes significantly. In particular, a high temperature heat pump is an important contributor in this field. It is able to provide both cooling and heating simultaneously. Due to its high COP, a large reduction of energy consumption for heating and thus CO2 emission is achieved. This article explains how this contribution to sustainability works in a practical case, a heat pump at 65°C in operation in a meat plant. The natural gas consumption has been reduced by 50%. This project has a pay back time of approximately 4 years. The potential of the high temperature heat pump is still underestimated.
