Résumé

Non-uniform frost deposition causes a blockage of the fin-and-tube evaporator in a few critical points reducing the operation time in proper mode, while total frost mass has not yet reached to the full capacity that the evaporator can accumulate. In recent years, many attempts were focused on the improvement of frost distribution during evaporator operation in order to avoid this problem. In this paper, a new design approach to the evaporator for application in side-by-side refrigerators with indirect cooling is presented. Test conditions and procedures are described in detail. Temperature variations at several points of interior have been monitored and operation time in proper mode is measured. Images of a frosted evaporator do not show any blocked air paths and frost distribution is uniform over the entire evaporator surface even after intensive frost deposition. The operation time in proper mode is turned out to be doubled compared with the refrigerator equipped by a conventional evaporator.
