Résumé
Thermal comfort in buildings is strongly linked to their architectural design. The elements involved are diverse, their effects are difficult to predict from a purely theoretical approach. Numerical simulation answers such a requirement by analyzing building thermal behavior according to these parameters. Given the number of parameters involved, there are too many numerical tests to perform for computing the energy load if the one factor-at-one-time method is used. The experiment design method makes it possible to limit the number of simulations. This tool is especially interesting, since it allows the study the combined actions of several factors on the energy load in addition to the simple effects of factors. In this study, we were interested in examining the influence of building envelope design on cooling energy for residential buildings in Mediterranean climate. Based on numerical simulations conducted on the m2m software, this study provides directions for architects or engineers in the first stage of their project to reduce the cooling needs of Mediterranean building. The dominant factors are picked up using the factorial experiments. It was pointed out that the most influent building parameters on the cooling load are the window-to-wall ratio on the south façade and the number of floors. Another aspect of this study is to illustrate the interaction between the parameters and their impact on cooling demand for Mediterranean buildings. These interactions were identified and interpretations were provided to relate physical phenomena explaining the most important ones.
