Résumé

Most of the currently produced Indian refrigerators still use CFC-12 as the refrigerant. The paper reports the performance characteristics of refrigerators, of a popular Indian brand of 165 litre capacity, retrofitted with R401A (with alkyl benzene oil) and Care-30 along with CFC-12 as the baseline. The tests (Rated Energy Consumption Test, Lo-load pull-Down Test) were carried out as per IS-1476. The paper presents in detail the retrofitting procedure, refrigerant charge optimisation and performance results.
