Résumé
The demand for space heating and sanitary hot water in the building sector is responsible for almost 25% of global energy consumption and 90% of this demand is met at the moment using combustion of fossil fuels. Heat pumps technology is fundamental to decarbonize the building sector. However, to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, heat pumps should operate with refrigerants having a low environmental impact. In recent years, there have been various regulations that push toward a phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons. In this scenario, the present work numerically studies the seasonal performance of a dual source heat pump that uses a natural fluid, CO2, as the working refrigerant. The heat pump produces hot water at the gas-cooler and it can use alternatively an air-to-refrigerant evaporator or a water-to-refrigerant evaporator. A model of the heat pump has been developed in Matlab environment, the heat exchangers are modelled considering a physical approach and the models for each component are validated using data from the literature. The tool developed, and presented in this paper, is used to compare the seasonal performance of the proposed CO2 heat pump in terms of coefficient of performance for locations with different climates to investigate the potential of the dual source system as compared to the air-source heat pump.
