Résumé

Carbon dioxide is regarded as the ideal fluid for vapour compression based heat pumps for tap water heating. However, due to the intrinsic inefficiency of the transcritical cycle at high outlet temperature from the gas cooler, it has been barely considered for air conditioning applications. In this paper the first steps that lead to the development of a reversible heat pump for space heating and cooling based on a CO2 transcritical cycle are described. Specific technical solutions aiming at reducing the throttling losses by means of two-phase ejector and at allowing cycle inversion have been established and implemented to make the unit competitive with alternative options based on synthetic fluids. Experimental assessment of the heating and cooling mode operations is reported, with particular attention to the two-phase ejector performance at real operating conditions.
