Résumé

To establish their true potential for energy and environmental savings, the IEA Heat Pump Programme embarked on an international study called Global Environmental Benefits of Industrial Heat Pumps (Annex 21). This study clearly demonstrated that industrial heat pumps are well established in industry and operating experience from thousands of installations has shown that they are one of the most cost-effective alternatives for improving industrial energy efficiency and environmental performance. Examples from the textile, pulp and paper, and the food industries are presented, as well as the industrial heat pump screening developed under the Annex.Extract from the table of contents: different types of industrial heat pumps (closed compression cycles; mechanical vapour recompression; thermal vapour recompression; absorption cycles); integration of heat pumps in industrial processes; potential energy and environmental benefits.
