Résumé

This paper analyzes the potential of NIR spectroscopy for the determination of ammonia in ammonia-water mixtures representative of the fluids used in absorption refrigeration cycles. There are two areas of interest: the analysis of samples in the working conditions of a cycle and the analysis of mixtures at vapor-liquid equilibrium (ELV). After selecting the optimal wavelength for carrying out the measure, 1033 nm, two instrumental configurations are presented that are based on transflectance measures and which use immersion probes, or transmission measures. The results of analysing mixtures using a special cell constructed for incorporating an immersion probe are discussed. Ammonia-water mixtures with ammonia mass fraction ranges between 0.35 and 0.65 are analyzed. The effect of the pressure, temperature and concentration on the absorbance at 1033 nm is evaluated. Two calibration strategies are presented: one for determining the composition of mixture in the cycle conditions and the other for determining the composition of the liquid phase of the mixture in VLE conditions. The study has defined the work that needs to be done if NIR spectroscopy is to be implemented in the absorption refrigeration cycle.
