Pousses de glaïeuls : études sur l'entreposage frigorifique des fleurs coupées sous des conditions humides.

Studies on wet refrigerated storage of gladiolus spikes.

Résumé

Healthy and uniform spikes of three gladiolus cultivars were harvested at the stage when 5-6 florets had shown colour, precooled for 5 h at 4 plus or minus 0.5 °C and wet-stored, with their basal 6 to 7 cm portions dipped in water, at a temperature of 4 plus or minus 0.5 °C and relative humidity of 85-90% for 3, 7, 11, 15, 19 and 23 days. After storage, the 2- to 3-cm lower spike portions were recut and the spikes were put in glass vases containing distilled water. Observations were recorded for days taken for the basal floret to open, vase life, floret size, maximum florets open at one time and percentage of opening of florets. The results indicated that the spikes of gladiolus could be wet-stored for 7 days with minimum loss of vase life. Significant differences in keeping quality were observed between the different cultivars under storage.
