Résumé

Aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) is a means to save on primary energy consumption and to reduce the CO2-emission for HVAC in buildings and process cooling. Winter cold and summer heat from ambient air can be stored in aquifers and can be used for cooling purposes in summer and for pre-heating in the winter. The KBC-Bank in Leuven is the first ATES project in Belgium and the first building in the world that incorporates ATES in an existing cooling system based on chillers and ice buffers. Technical and economical results are discussed.
