Prévision de la performance d'un réfrigérateur magnétique basé sur les caractéristiques du matériau magnétocalorique.

System performance prediction of magnetic refrigerator based on magnetocaloric material characteristics.

Résumé

Room temperature magnetic refrigeration is an emerging green technology with environmentally desirable characteristics. AMRR (Active Magnetic Regenerative Refrigerator) technology requires cycling matrices of magnetocaloric material between low and high magnetic field. Besides the researches on cycle performance and optimization analysis, a number of families of alloys are being investigated in order to find the optimum magnetocaloric material. Magnetic refrigeration performance prediction studies are based on the Gd(5)Si(2)Ge(2) (GSG) compounds and its alloys which were studied in Ankara University and Mugla University Laboratories, Turkey, with ongoing research for improving magnetic characteristics of parent GSG by new proportions and new 3d and p elements. The purpose of this present study was to predict the optimum operation conditions of magnetic refrigeration for a given series of magnetocaloric material obtained in the laboratories. The mathematical model predicts the system performance dependant on the mass flow rate and magnetic field (mu(o)H(x,t)) for the imposed time variation. Energy balance equation covering, enthalpy change of the flow and heat transfer from the fluid to the magnetic material is coupled with the governing equation of magnetocaloric matrix with magnetic work transfer, heat transfer. The cycle should be performed in higher frequencies in order to obtain higher efficiency for the magnetic refrigeration process. Numerical program was also used to predict the arrangement of magnetic materials in order to obtain larger temperature span. Cooling capacity, magnetic properties and geometry of material are effective for the prediction of the system characteristics.
