Résumé

Over the past years, various successful heat pump projects have been realised in commercial buildings. Also from the economic point of view these projects were successful because the additional investments could be earned back within 2 to 7 years even without subsidies. The basic concept for these heat pump applications consists of the combination of a heat pump and long term thermal energy storage in the soil. This has already been applied in hundreds of projects, mainly for cooling purposes, this technology has been known for over 10 years. Free cold energy is stored in winter to be utilized in summer for air conditioning or industrial cooling. The integration of such a storage system with a heat pump enables the utilization of both heat and cold energy, thus reducing the primary energy consumption by 40 till 60% compared to gas fired boilers and chillers. In the paper a couple of projects are presented to illustrate the application of this innovative heat pump system concept in office buildings, housing buildings and in district energy supply systems.
