This report is part of the UNEP review pursuant to Article 6 of the Montreal Protocol on ODP (see also IIR Bulletin, reference 2003-2649 and this Bulletin, references 2004 - 0458, 2004 - 0459, 2004 - 0460 and 2004 - 0462). Extract from the table of contents: halon usage and replacement in the military (military-sponsored research into halon alternatives); civil aviation (it is strongly recommended that commercial airlines and other aviation users continue to implement discharge minimisation procedures and individually or collectively establish measures to meet their long-term needs for recycled halons); merchant shipping (mandatory halon decommissioning regulations; existing ships equipped with halon systems; prognosis for existing ships equipped with halon systems); inertion/explosion suppression (pipelines/oil and gas industry; commercial/industrial explosion protection); halon phase-out in countries with economies in transition; halon phase-out in countries operating under Article 5(1) of the Montreal Protocol.
