The recent consolidation in the merchant CO2 business shows renewed interest in this segment by the industrial gas business. For industrial gas players and distributors, the potential for growth in this very fundamental product market is strong. Recent legislation and voluntary commitments to reduce the use of HFC-based refrigeration has opened up growth opportunities, especially for merchant CO2 producers for food and beverage HFC-free refrigeration with CO2, the largest application for merchant CO2.
