Résumé

Of today's great ice sheets, the West Antarctic Ice Sheet poses the most immediate threat of a large sea-level rise, owing to its potential instability. It is not possible to place high confidence in any specific prediction about the future of WAIS. Nevertheless, policy makers are confronted by three scenarios. The author assesses the relative likelihood of scenario 1 to be highest of the three (but with low confidence). Scenarios 1 and 3 would ultimately result in 4-6 meters sea-level rise. Almost all sea-level rise would occur beyond the twenty-first century.
