Résumé

Frosting in a cryogenic precooler, which is a heat exchanger using liquid hydrogen as refrigerant, is a critical problem. The distinctive phenomenon observed under the cryogenic conditions is the mist generation due to the condensation of water vapor in the air flow. In this research, we develop the numerical model considering gravitational settling and thermophoresis to investigate the effects of them. The calculations with or without considering the gravitational settling and thermophoresis are conducted for frost formation on the cold plate at 103 K. The results indicate that the thermophoresis increases the amount of frost and facilitates accumulation especially behind the frost hill. On the contrast, the gravitational settling and the diffusional deposition have little effect. In conclusion, the thermophoresis is an important factor of frost formation under the cryogenic conditions, and it mainly contributes to the frost formation behind the frost hill.
