Two-stage 4 K pulse tube coolers: performance and application.

Résumé

The first two-stage pulse tube cooler, designed by aid of numerical analysis, was able to reach a lowest temperature of 2.23 K and a cooling power of 370 milliwatts at 4.2 K. By further optimizing the structure and operating parameters as well as negative direct-current flow, the latest two-stage pulse tube cooler so far can provide a cooling power of 0.50 watts at 4.2 K. Helium 4 has been successfully liquefied with a liquefaction rate of 0.13 litre/hour and a niobium(3)-tin magnet has been cooled down to 2.6 K by using the two-stage 4 K pulse tube coolers.
