Résumé

Multisalt-carbon chemical coolers involving concurrent chemical reactions and physical adsorption is of interest in applications where heat needs to be rejection to a high temperature sink. A high temperature lift (up to 100°C) between a high temperature chemical reactor and low temperature reactor can be achieved with metal chlorides and ammonia as the working fluid. Active carbon fibre "Busofit" is used as a fast sorbent bed and host material for salts with high permeability, porosity and capillary potential. Preliminary experimental tests have shown promising results from the point of view of high temperature lift capability, and stable operation of the system. The advantage of low power and mass with no moving parts makes this cooler attractive for some space applications.
