Refroidisseurs de liquide à ammoniac avec condensation à air.

Air cooled chillers with ammonia.

Auteurs : PEARSON A.

Résumé

Ammonia provides excellent performance in water and glycol cooling applications, but there are very few standard packages available to deliver this advantage in an air-cooled arrangement without going to the trouble of designing and installing a custom-built system. This paper describes a new style of air-cooled chiller which is aimed at the commercial buildings market, but has also been used to great advantage in industrial and leisure applications. The technical considerations in operating an ammonia air-cooled system are discussed, particularly in high ambients and in comparison with typical HFC chillers. Two case studies are presented, highlighting the overall advantages delivered by this approach in new build and retrofit projects. The first case study is the conversion of a warehouse to a chilled distribution centre, using propylene glycol as the secondary refrigerant. The second case study is the refurbishment of an ice rink. The possibility of further development is explored, identifying particular areas requiring further research and development from refrigeration equipment manufacturers.
