Résumé

The energy efficiency of transcritically operating CO2 refrigeration systems usually shows lower values than systems with other commonly used refrigerants. On the other hand the thermodynamic properties of CO2 (R-744) allow certain measures to enhance the efficiency. The most frequently discussed methods are parallel compressors, ejectors, expanders and external subcooling. The mentioned methods were all implemented in a unique laboratory CO2 refrigeration system. This includes two ejectors of different designs, one each for low pressure lift application and for high pressure lift application, which can be compared with an expander-compressor-unit. The work recovered by the expander is used to drive an internal subcooling cycle. The system structure, the boundary conditions of the measurements and the first comparative results of the different performance enhancing measures are presented in this paper. The advantages and disadvantages of each method, including the challenges for each system variant in operation, are discussed.
As a result of the experiments, the efficiency improvement potential of the individual measure is presented, considering the corresponding operation conditions. Finally, a direct comparison is carried out between all the different examined options.
