Résumé

The purpose of this experimental investigation is to present HFO-1234yf flow regime visualizations and to compare them with flow pattern prediction tools found in the literature. HFO-1234yf two-phase flow is investigated in a 6.7 mm inner diameter glass straight tube from simultaneous top and side visualizations with a high speed high definition camera. The different flow regimes observed are: slug, intermittent and annular flows. In addition, 308 new two-phase frictional pressure drop data points using HFO-1234yf are measured in straight tubes of inner diameter (D) from 7.90 to 10.85 mm, mass velocities from 291 to 1152 kg/m2.s and saturation temperatures from 4.9 to 20.2°C. The results are compared against 4 well-known two-phase frictional pressure drop prediction methods from the literature. The best accuracy is given by the method of Müller Steinhagen and Heck (1986) with around 90 % of the data predicted within a +30% error band.
