Séchoirs à déshumidification pour le bois difficile à sécher.

Dehumidifier dryers for hard-to-dry timbers.

Auteurs : CARRINGTON C. G., SUN Z. F., SUN Q., et al.

Résumé

Hard-to-dry timbers, such as Nothofagus fusca (New Zealand Red Beech) are prone to degrade during kiln drying unless they are predried slowly at low temperature. However, air-drying is uncontrolled, and typically takes 12-24 months for N. fusca. The paper assesses the design of a dehumidifier kiln for drying untreated N. fusca, based on a time-dependent process model. The energy use of the dehumidifier kiln is compared with a vented kiln having the same duty, and the cost of the dehumidifier kiln operation is compared with conventional air-drying. The results indicate that well designed dehumidifier dryers provide an opportunity to kiln-dry N. fusca under controlled conditions with significant savings in processing costs.
