Separation of aqueous lithium bromide using an ion exchange membrane.

Résumé

Lithium bromide aqueous solution is widely used for absorption heat pumps, and the water is separated from the lithium-bromide aqueous solution by heating, usually in connection with phase change. In the study, an electrodialysis technique using an ion exchange membrane was applied for separation of the lithium bromide aqueous solution. The electrodialysis technique is applied in many fields, and ion exchange membranes separate the ionic solution using electric force, but limited information exists for separation of lithium bromide aqueous solution. Electrodialysis achieves satisfactory results in the separation of salt from seawater. Lithium bromide has characteristics analogous to NaC1, and it enables separation by electrodialysis. Using this technique, the separation of water from lithium bromide aqueous solution will become possible without phase change at normal temperatures. In the study, separation measurements were obtained using electrodialysis and its feasibility was studied. The separation of lithium bromide aqueous solution was achieved in the range of 10 to 25 wt% LiBr.
