Résumé

This article deals with the role of air-conditioning and ventilation systems in the control of the SARS virus. The recent outbreaks of bird flu in Asian countries have reinforced the need for effective control of infectious diseases. The author looks at the experiences in Beijing at the time of the SARS outbreak, provides background information on the disease and infection control and discusses various ventilation/air-conditioning options not only for SARS patient wards but also for buildings in which people gather.
