Résumé

The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) is a very important parameter for researching and developing efficient magnetic refrigerators. This paper discusses and compares the characteristics of direct and indirect measurement methods for MCE. A direct measurement setup has been designed and developed for MCE. A magnetic field system was made by using neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnet. The temperature in the magnetic field gap is controlled by a semiconductor cooler/heater in the range of 230-340 K. The rate of rising temperature and the interval of measuring temperature is adjustable, respectively. The setup has been applied to measure the adiabatic temperature change of several magnetic refrigeration materials. The experimental results show that the developed direct measurement setup is relatively accurate and suitable for the MCE measurements of different magnetic materials.
