Résumé

Increasing energy costs and the need to meet Kyoto Protocol obligations have led to growing demand for "environmentally friendly" heating/air-conditioning systems. This presentation, on the other hand, analyses a retrofit application in which an integrated control system was designed: this aspect is too often neglected, ignoring the fact that a correctly sized system can not operate at maximum performance without a good control strategy. The system is based on a ground source heat pump that supplies a radiant system, used for both heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. The solution also includes an air-handling unit, which not only ensures suitable air change, but also allows the humidity of the air to be controlled in the summer. To optimise operation and reduce power consumption, the heat pump is fitted with an electronic expansion valve. The rooms all have thermostats-humidistats connected via a serial line to the zone controller, which in turn communicates with the ground source heat pump controller and the air handling system. This application shows how careful integrated design of the installation and the control system allows highly innovative systems to be developed, even in particularly restrictive renovations, maximising efficiency with the best solutions for the context.
