Résumé
Enormous energy is dissipated as low-temperature waste heat in the process industries and power plants [1]. However, in order to utilize the potential of these low-grade heat sources, there is a necessity for the integration of the available waste heat with potential onsite end-uses or with endusers in the surrounding of the plant/industry. Mostly, for low-temperature waste heat sources (<100°C) the suitable end-users are either far from the source or need upgrading (i.e., temperature boosting) to the desired level for useful on-site/off-site end-use applications. Space heating/cooling of commercial and residential buildings via district heating/cooling systems are interesting end-use applications for the utilization of low-temperature waste heat sources below 100°C. Absorption heat transformers (AHTs) are systems that can recover low-grade waste heat because of its capability to upgrade part of the heat energy from a low to high temperature (useful) level. AHTs can be configured to be single-stage AHTs, double-stage and double-effect AHTs or triple AHTs [2,3]. Typically, with single-stage AHTs up to half of the waste heat supply could be increased in temperature while the rest is rejected to the atmosphere at lower temperature.
