Systèmes directs ou indirects dans les grandes et moyennes installations frigorifiques.

Indirect versus direct systems in medium and large cooling plants.

Auteurs : RIVET P.

Résumé

In medium and large cooling plants, due to the ban of HCFCs for new plants in Europe, the HFCs (mainly R404A and R507) are often used in direct-expansion systems. The charge is important because the cost for the first charge is high and the risks of leaks increase as the system is decentralized and sprayed often. Leaks increase cost and the contribution to global warming (GWP of R404A/R507 is around 3800). The main answer is to go to indirect systems; if nothing is done, power consumption will increase (extra DT and pumping energy) as well as indirect warming. Only the direct warming impact will decrease. Depending on the type of primary energy, indirect warming could represent up to 80% of total warming. The paper gives some ways to counteract this negative point introduced by indirect systems.
