The coverage begins with a review of low- and high-temperature superconductivity and proceeds with (1) a discussion of technical issues for applications that rely on superconducting magnets; (2) a description of the superconductivity partnership initiatives (SPI), a US Department of Energy program on electric power applications of high-temperature superconductivity; and (3) a description of the current activities on superconducting magnet technology at the MIT Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory.
